I’m Thor F. Jensen, a Danish adventurer and filmmaker, and I’m inviting you to hear the remarkable story of how I joined forces with three master sailors from Papua New Guinea to circumnavigate the island of New Guinea in a traditional sailing canoe—the Tawali Pasana. No engines. No modern navigation. Just wind, tradition, and determination.
A World-First Canoe Expedition
Over 13 months, we sailed more than 6,300 kilometres around the second-largest island on Earth—battling monsoons, pirates, crocodiles and cultural barriers.
Together, our crew—The Fellowship of the Tawali Pasana—not only made history but reconnected young Pacific communities with their ancestral voyaging heritage.
